Packer History

The Moorpark Packers were formed in 1989. The Packers program was founded by Rob Dearborn, then the Head Football Coach (currently the Athletic Director) at Moorpark High School. Rob wanted to create a program which would allow the children of Moorpark to learn and develop a love for the game of football, while teaching them important values such as sportsmanship and discipline.

Since 1989, the Moorpark Packers have developed close ties with the community, which has provided the Packers, and Packers Cheer, with great support. The Packers have built and operate their own practice and game facilities at Arroyo Vista Park, where spectators have enjoyed Packers Football in a family atmosphere.

In an effort to provide its players with the best coaching possible, the Packers have maintained an excellent working relationship with the football coaching staff at Moorpark High School, many of whose children participate in the Packers program. Through this relationship, including clinics put on by the Moorpark High School coaches, the Packers coaches and players learn safe, up to date football techniques. This process also allows the Packers to teach players techniques and game schemes consistent with those used at the high school level, which better prepares players who go on to play football for Moorpark High School

League History

From 1989 until 1993, the Packers played in the Santa BarbaraYouth Football League ("SBYFL"). The Packers left the SBYFL to join a new league forming in the local area.

In 1993, the Packers joined the new Pacific Youth Football League ("PYFL"). The Packers played in the PYFL until 2004. The Packers left the PYFL due to age and weight rule changes in the PYFL which the Packers believed were unsafe.

In 2005, the Packers joined the new Gold Coast Youth Football League ("GCYFL"). The Moorpark Packers, along with Westlake, Simi Valley, Fillmore, Santa Paula, Camarillo, Oxnard, Harvard-Westlake Middle School, and Santa Clarita are all charter members in the formation of the new GCYFL. The GCYFL Chapters (including Moorpark) produced numerous "Super Bowl Championship" teams in the past and will continue providing opportunities for excellent competition into the future.

Packer Mission Statement

We are committed to creating a positive environment where players can have fun, make new friends and develop a love of sport.  We further commit to coach all of our players and work with each of them to achieve their personal potential.  We will do this by building on individual successes and by treating mistakes as learning opportunities.

We are committed to teaching football, developing each of our players and providing them with a quality experience.  To do this we will provide a safe environment for young athletes to learn the key skills necessary to succeed on the football field and, ultimately, we will seek to prepare them to play high school football.  We believe that this mandate includes not only developing specific athletic skills but also developing a player’s character including leadership skills, self-discipline and confidence.

We are committed to teaching proper technique and safety.  We will provide our players and coaches with the teaching tools and equipment necessary to ensure that each player learns the fundamental skills necessary to play football safely.

We believe that mutual trust and respect are critical to any organization and require that all of our players, coaches and parents demonstrate these values on and off the field.  Through our example we will seek to teach our players to respect themselves, their team, their coach, their parents and their family.

Finally, we are committed to improving our organization.  We will monitor, measure and constantly seek to improve the performance of our board, our coaches, our teams and players.  We will do this with honesty, humility and respect for all involved.

  • Enrique Ortiz, VP Operations
  • Stephano Borzone
  • John Reilly

Team Selection

Team selection is performed through and open draft by our Competition Committee and must meet program quality standards.  We seek to achieve the following:

  • We try to keep teams together as best we can
  • Winning teams are desired but not at the expense of players, coaches, or parents
  • We seek to avoid creating stripped teams that have little chance of success

Grievances

The Competition Committee is chartered by the Board to hear and resolve all grievances made by Coaches, Players and Parents.  If you have a grievance and would like to meet with the Competition Committee simply email your grievance to comp@moorparkpackers.com  .
