New 2012 Gold Coast Youth Football Rule Changes
X Player Rule - Every division will allow players that fit their designated age groups, but exceed their weight limits, to be included on their teams. Players, however, that exceed the weight limit for their age groups and choose to "play down" will be identified as "X" Players and will be subject to the following restrictions:
-
Only 3 "X" players are allowed on the field at a time for one team.
-
The "X" players can ONLY play on the line of scrimmage on offense or defense; they may not carry the ball and may not play on Kickoff or Kickoff Return.
For example, an 80 lb. 10 year old may now play in the Bantam Division (ages 8-10). Since he exceeds the weight limit for an unrestricted 10 year old (max weight - 75 lbs.), he can still play in the Bantam division as an "X" player with the restrictions listed above.
